Android An OS That Created Today Smartphone
A Little Intro
We all know what Android is and how it changed (still changing) our day to day interference with the virtual world. Well, as for the introduction Android is an Operating System based on Linux. It was created mainly for devices like smartphones, tablets, and computer (up to some extent), along with Linux Java has done the coding part.
But other languages can also be used. The main goal of Android is to improve the mobile experience for the end users. At first, Android was basically designed for touchscreen devices like Smartphone and tablets.

Android’s user interface included some real-world manipulations like swipe to scroll, pinch to zoom in or zoom out and tap to select an item, it also includes a virtual keyboard for text input.
Android was founded in 2003 by three engineers (Andy Rubin, Nick Sears, and Rich Miner) in Palo Alto. Initially, they were trying to develop a more advanced software for digital cameras but due to limited market they moved on to develop a software for mobile phones and wished to compete with that time leaders like Symbian and Window phones.
Back in 2005 Google acquired Android and ran under the supervision of Larry Page, the Google founder who fostered it and made it what it is today. Page’s main motto was to put handheld computers with access to Google in every person’s pocket on this planet.
Google Corporate development got instructions directly from Page to buy a small startup with same preposterous ambition. The acquired startup was Android and its CEO and co-founder was Andy Rubin, he was a former Apple executive who has also developed a famous internet enabled phone called “Sidekick”.
The Android acquisition was Larry’s decision. He didn't tell Eric Schmidt (then CEO of Google) about this $50 million deal until it was done. Sergey Brin (co-founder of Google) knew all about but didn’t take much interest.
Page setup Android separately, one that was only formally a part of Google and allowed Rubin’s wide imagination to run without any interference from the parent company. Android even has its own building and Google’s employee couldn’t access with their Google badges. Schmidt, on the other hand, ignored it.
Page turned Android into a passion project. He spent most of his time with Rubin so much that sometimes he felt guilty for not looking after the rest of the Google more closely but to his relief, Schmidt was there.
Over the course of two years, Rubin finally developed a self-proclaimed state of the art mobile operating system. In 2007 Steve Jobs introduced Apple’s version of internet connected phone. This was the iPhone and it was amazing.
When Rubin saw this, he thought “We have to redesign our phone”. Finally, in September 2008, T-Mobile’s G1 came into the market with the first phone using the software developed by Rubin and his team. The OS looked and worked like an iOS and was free for phone makers to install.
In the second Quarter of 2009, Android loaded phone captured 1.8% of all sales. During the same quarter of 2010, Android captured 17.2% of the market-beating Apple which had 14% for the first time. Soon, Android became the world’s most popular operating system.
By 2010, Page played a key role in creating two pervasive technologies, Google and Android, which extremely improved life of people around the world. Google which began as a thesis project, made the internet more powerful. Then without any adult supervision. Page acquired the Android development Company made it one of the most famous OS on the planet.
How Android got its name
Since its acquaintance by Google Android traveled a lot to become one of the world’s best mobile operating system. All of us are familiar with that little green guy called Andy. Ascender Corp. designed that logo. The term android for the first time was coined in between 1193 and 1280 by Albertus Magnus, he was a saint and he made a brass head that would answer questions put on it. That was our first android and he called it Android. And yes, Android was a robot!
You can also find the word android in chapter 16, witchcraft and spells by Eliphas Levi. In US patent the word Android was appeared in 1863 defining a miniature human-like toy automation. A French writer Villiers wrote a novel called L'Ève future and it was known for popularizing the term “Android”. Apart from this Andy Rubin’s co-workers nicknamed him as Android because of his love towards the robot.
Android and IOS are the two most popular operating system around us. In this over competitive tech world, there can only be one winner and due to some outstanding benchmarks, it must be android. Here are some top reasons why one should opt for Android.
Android is customizable
Some people are relaxed by the equality offered by the mighty IOS, but for those who want their phone as an extension of themselves want to refine it and Android is equipped with this facility. On some Android devices, you can even change the whole software.
Android devices allow you to change every aspect of it from home screen launcher to on-screen keyboard appearance and if there is CyanogenMod you can even uninstall the unnecessary pre-loaded mobile apps that come with the phone.
Android is stuffed with apps
Most of the android apps can be found at the Google Play store (previously known as Android market), even though there is some third-party marketplace which also offers Android apps. On the other hand, the app store is the marketplace for Apple devices. But Google play store has more apps than Apple’s App Store, where Apple has a little more over 2.2 million apps on app store and Google play store has 2.8 million apps.
Fun fact is that Google play store has more free apps than total apps in app store. Out of 2.8 million apps, 2.4 million apps are free. That's more free apps for Android than the total number of apps in app store. Due to which there is more option to choose without any cost concern. Apart from this one of the main reason why Android has so many due to the widely available Android app development company.
An Android phone for everyone
Need a sturdy phone that you can take hiking or mountain hiking? Go for Samsung Galaxy S8. Want a flagship phone that has a top-notch performance? Grab OnePlus 5T. Want a Great Camera? Get Google Pixel 2. Android is flooded with choices and end users are loving it.
As of 2016, there were more than 24000 Android devices in the market by 1300 brands. But on the other and with every generation of Apple devices, you only get 3 options Small, medium and large. Other than sizes there are no major or noticeable changes in these devices.
A wide variety of price range
If you are upgrading to the next generation of the iOS device, then you have got just a couple of different options and all of them are expensive. There are so many Android phones out there for every price range. You can choose a $20 Alcatel Pixi Glitz or an $840 Samsung Galaxy S8 (starting range). So, there is a choice but Apple won’t release a phone under $500 due to which options are limited.
Don’t have to run behind iTunes
Apple’s iTunes is required to transfer music between your iPhone and computer which is a mess. Uninstalling it is a night terror, it is so complicated that Apple even published an extensive guide for how to fully remove iTunes from your computer. Android users don’t need iTunes and have given more choices for music services, games and purchase in general. What more to say you can even get iTunes on your Android device if you want.
Everything is blended with Google
Android is an open source project called Android Open Source Project (AOSP) led by google but google doesn’t own it. Googles use AOSP to make different versions of Android, which is then used by another phone manufacturers.
Android app development service is provided by Google. Services like Gmail, Google Chrome, Google Music, Google Music, Google Maps, Google Docs etc. all of them are great. But, on the other hand, Apple is not keeping up with the pace.
Android is up to date with technology
Android devices technologies are way ahead than Apple. Apple moves slowly while Android runs at full speed. Manufacturers of Android devices offer plenty of fresh choices for new technology, many new features that Apple is thinking to implement are already on Android devices.
For example, iPhone 7 is now water resistant. But Android implemented this 2 years ago, and the Samsung Galaxy S8 has a higher IP68 certification than the Apple 8 which has IP67 certification. Android started using touch feedback 2 years ago. Apple’s marketing strategies are brilliant due to which many people believe that Apple is the inventor of Smartphones.
Android Supports microSD
If you run out of internal space on an Apple device, you have two options, either delete some apps and files or buy a new iPhone. Apple devices don't come with a microSD slot option. But most of the Android devices are equipped with microSD card access.

The difference between a 32 GB iPhone and 256 GB iPhone is $200. On the other hand, SanDisk Ultra 200 GB microSD card only costs $72. There is a wide range of SD cards and according to your need you can choose one, means for an extra 64 GB you only have to pay $20.
Android Cloud (storage) is bigger
Google Drive gives you 15 GB of cloud storage and iCloud only give 5 GB, which is not even enough for a person’s documents and photos. If you want to upgrade your cloud storage than Apple is greedier than Google. It will cost you $100 for an extra 50 GB on iCloud, on the other hand, Google charges only $24 for twice as much storage.
Android NFC is not limited
NFC stands for Near Field Communication Apple introduced NFC to its iPhone 6 but just to use Apple Pay. But in Android NFC chips been available in devices for years and they work very well, which includes NFC tags and file sharing.
Without Larry Page and Andy Rubin, we can’t even think about today’s smartphone. No doubt Android is one of the best OS available and is still evolving day by day to deliver a better user experience. One day everyone will have an Android-enabled phone in their pocket as Larry Page dreamt of.
